Norbert Prangenberg

Norbert Prangenberg (born June 23, 1949 in Nettesheim near Cologne, † June 29, 2012 in Krefeld ) was a German painter , graphic artist , sculptor and glass designer.

life and work

From 1963 to 1967, Prangenberg completed an apprenticeship as a goldsmith with C. Kesseler in Cologne . In addition, he made his first woodcuts and drawings from 1965 and linocuts from 1978 . In the eighties he made sculptures from glazed clay, large amphorae and hollow bodies, which he called "figures". During this time, an extensive painterly oeuvre was created with watercolor drawings and large-format oil and pastel paintings . From 1973 to 1976 he worked as a designer in the design office of Glashüttenwerke Peill + Putzler in Düren. Since 1976 he has worked as a freelance designer, among others for the Süßmuth glassworks in Immenhausen . It was here, among many others, the goblet series ARABESK, awarded the design 78 and the series BORNHOLM and ÖLAND awarded design plus HiF 84. Since 2003 added Prangenberg his painting with ceramics in majolica that the organic form and color repertoire of the artist recordings .

Since 1993 Prangenberg has held a professorship for ceramics and glass painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Prangenberg lived and worked in Munich and Niederarnbach (near Ingolstadt). On July 9, 2012, he was buried in the old cemetery in Rommerskirchen .
