history

Ramrath originally consisted of two parts until the French occupation. While the district of Ramrath to the left of the Gillbach belonged to the Electorate of Cologne, the area to the right of the Gillbach and the village of Villau had been a Jülich enclave in the Electoral Cologne Office of Hülchrath, which was called "Berghausen", since the Middle Ages and early modern times.

After the French invaded in 1794, the area on the left bank of the Rhine became French. In 1798 the French divided the Rhineland into four departments (Rur / Roer, Rhine-Mosel, Saar and Donnersberg). Départements were divided into arrondissements , these in cantons and these in mairies . The Mairie Evinghoven was established as the lowest administrative unit in this area. This belonged to the canton of Dormagen in the Arrondissement Cologne in the Département de la Roer . After the withdrawal of the French occupation troops as a result of the collapse of the Napoleonic Empire in 1814, the Catholic Rhineland was awarded to Protestant Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Since 1839 Ramrath belonged to the municipality of Hoeningen in the mayor's office of Evinghoven .

On January 1, 1975, the Hoeningen community was incorporated into Rommerskirchen.
