history
Several urns from the Iron Age were found in the former brickworks near Anstel. It was a cemetery that could have been laid out by the Ubiers . Roman settlement is documented by villae rusticae , and regular settlement has also been documented since the 2nd century AD . Anstel already in 1134 as Anstele mentioned. The origins of the place lie in the village center with its late medieval moated castle and the homesteads around the place, presumably just as old in their origins. This moated castle is a knight's seat in the Electorate of Cologne - the house of Anstel. Until 1794 the small Gillbachdorf belonged to the Dingstuhl Rommerskirchen in the Hülchrath office in the Electorate of Cologne . After the French invaded in 1794, the area on the left bank of the Rhine became French. In 1798 the French divided the Rhineland into four departments (Rur / Roer, Rhine-Mosel, Saar and Donnersberg). Departments were subdivided into arrondissements / roughly administrative districts, these in turn into cantons / roughly districts and these again into mairies / mayor's offices. The Mairie Nettesheim was established as the lowest administrative unit in this area . This belonged to the canton of Dormagen in the Arrondissement Cologne in the Département de la Roer . After the withdrawal of the French occupation troops as a result of the collapse of the Napoleonic Empire in 1814, the Catholic Rhineland was awarded to Protestant Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. After 1815 Anstel became part of the municipality of Frixheim-Anstel in the mayor's office of Nettesheim and came to the Neuss district . On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Frixheim-Anstel was incorporated into the municipality of Rommerskirchen.
