The Anstel Castle is a moated castle in the Rommerskirchen district of Anstel (Wasserburgstrasse 30) in the Rhine district of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia . The moated castle is the oldest secular architectural monument in Rommerskirchen.
history
In 1155 the castle was first mentioned in a document by a "Sigefridus de Anstele". In the middle of the 12th century the castle was owned by a family called "de Anstele", who called themselves "Knights of Anstel" from 1209 and after 1270 only "Knappen".
1371 fief of the Archbishop of Cologne, the squire of appointing Henry with the beard, with the castle, the then called himself "by appointing".
Around 1400 the castle was bought by Heinrich von Siegenhofen, whose family owned the castle until it died out as a male and whose descendants sold it to Theodor Jochemich around 1911 and has remained in the possession of the Jochemich family to this day, who moved it to a baroque residential complex in 1722 remodeled unchanged building stock.

A brick bridge , which suggests a former drawbridge , leads from the castle courtyard over the moat from the outer bailey to the inner bailey , the entrance of which shows a coat of arms stone with the year “1722”. Today's farm buildings in the outer bailey date from the 20th century. The two-storey residential building with in sandstone framed windows and base (former residential tower ) carries a beschiefertes Mansard - hipped roof .
Today there is a farm and the castle complex houses a riding facility with stables, riding arena and riding arenas.
