- March 21st - The German encyclical With Burning Concern by Pope Pius XI. will be published. She takes a critical look at the situation that arose for the Catholic Church in Germany as a result of the National Socialist takeover.

- January 18 - The soap opera Aunt Jenny's Real Life Stories premieres on CBS . The 15-minute series is in the program until 1956.
- May 6th - The disaster of the Hindenburg landing in Lakehurst , New Jersey can be followed live on the radio through the famous report by Herbert Morrison .
- October 1st - Radio Sweden broadcasts the news program Dagens eko (German: "Echo of the day") for the first time.
- November 10th - The President of Brazil , Getúlio Dornelles Vargas , declares a state of emergency on the radio due to an allegedly imminent communist coup and rules - initially limited to 90 days - authoritarian.

- January 21 - In London, Marcel Boulestin becomes the first TV chef to appear in front of the camera on Cook's night out in the BBC studio .
- Feb. 6 - The BBC is that of John Logie Baird developed television system in favor of the 405-line standard of Marconi on.
- March 9th - The first experimental television broadcasts take place in the Soviet Union .
- May 12 - For reporting on the coronation ceremonies for King George VI. the BBC uses an OB van for the first time . This important event from the early history of television was received for posterity by means of an amateur recording filmed from the screen by an 8 mm camera .
- May 14th - The BBC shows a performance of What You Want . It is possibly the first performance of a play by William Shakespeare on television.
- June 21 - The Wimbledon Championships are televised for the first time .
- July 10 - A 455-line television system is introduced at the World Exhibition in Paris .

- March 3 - Rolf Bohnsack , German actor, was born in Husum († 2009). He will be best known for the numerous television broadcasts from the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater .
- March 22nd - Peter Vogel , German actor (first actor of the character of Major Adolf Kottan determined in Kottan ) is born in Munich († 1978).
- April 8th - Michael Leckebusch , German television producer ( Beat Club ) was born in Leipzig († 2000).
- June 15 - Herbert Feuerstein , Austrian cabaret artist and presenter ( Schmidtanders ) is born in Zell am See .
- July 12 - Bill Cosby , American actor and entertainer, is born in Philadelphia .
