- April - Apple launches the Apple II, one of the world's first microcomputers . In the same year, the Commodore company presented the PET 2001 as a competing product at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas .

- March 12th - In Italy, the autonomous radio station Radio Alice is shut down by the communist mayor of Bologna Renato Zangheri for “incitement to violence” and “ringleadership” .
- June 13th - The weekday caller broadcast starts on Ö1 from day to day . In the series, also known as the Ö1 Tagebuch , which initially goes on air in the mornings, but changes to a program slot in the early afternoon (until it was discontinued in 2017) in the same year, guests are invited to various, often current, topics listeners can ask questions. - October 20 - Rebecca Siemoneit-Barum , German actress ( Iphigenie Beimer in the WDR series Lindenstrasse ) is born in Ulm .

- January 23 - Otto Lüthje , German actor, dies in Hamburg at the age of 74 . He was best known for the numerous television broadcasts from the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater .
- July 21 - Henry Vahl , German actor, known for the Ohnsorg Theater , dies in Hamburg at the age of 79 .
- August 5th - Gerhard Just , German actor, dies in Tübingen at the age of 73 . He appeared in well over 100 radio plays.
- August 19 - Groucho Marx , American actor, member of the comedy troupe Marx Brothers , dies in Los Angeles at the age of 86 . Between 1947 and 1961 he moderated the extremely popular quiz show You Bet Your Life, which was first broadcast on the radio and later on television .
- October 4th - Alfred Pongratz , German actor dies at the age of 77 in Munich .
- October 14 - Bing Crosby , American actor and radio presenter, dies in Madrid at the age of 74 .
- December 22nd - Ernst Waldbrunn , Austrian actor and cabaret artist dies in Vienna at the age of 70. Waldbrunn became known to a broad public in Austria during the 1960s through numerous appearances in Simpl programs recorded for television .
- December 31st - Hans Rothe , German writer, dramaturge, author of numerous radio plays and translator of the works of William Shakespeare dies at the age of 83 in Florence .
