- October 24 - The Black Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange begins Great Depression .
Radio
- March 24th - Radio Belgrade starts operations.
- June 9th - Nordische Rundfunk AG (NORAG) broadcasts the Hamburg Harbor Concert for the first time . The program now produced by NDR is thus the oldest radio program still being broadcast in the world.
- July 1st - Radio Sweden ( Sveriges Radio ) founds the radio play department Radioteatern , which is headed by Per Lindberg .
- July 27 - The radio opera The ocean air of Bertolt Brecht on the first Atlantic crossing by plane will premiere "radiophonisch".
- October 29th - Radio Moscow (later: Voice of Russia ) starts its foreign operations.
- October 6th - The radio journalist and actor Alfred Braun reports live from the funeral for Gustav Stresemann for radio . His report is one of the most famous in German radio history and is considered the oldest broadcast broadcast.
- November 8th - The radio play SOS… rao rao… Foyn by the author Friedrich Wolf , produced by Funk-Hour Berlin , celebrates its radio premiere. The radio play, which describes the (authentic) rescue operation of the dirigible Italia in distress in the Arctic, is the oldest completely transmitted radio play production in German radio history.

- March 8 - At 11:10 p.m., the Deutsche Reichspost started an 80-minute test TV broadcast, but still without sound transmission.

- April 30th - Klausjürgen Wussow , German actor, was born in Cammin (Pomerania) († 2007). Wussow was best known to German-speaking television audiences in his role as chief physician Professor Klaus Brinkmann at the Black Forest Clinic .
- May 28th - Werner Achmann , German production designer and film set designer (for the TV series Raumpatrouille, among others ) was born in Munich († 2001).
- May 30th - Manfred Klein , German journalist, 1989 to 1990 general manager of the GDR radio , was born in Berlin .
- June 4th - Günter Strack , German film a. Television actor ( Die Drombuschs , Ein Fall für Zwei , 1981–1988) was born in Darmstadt († 1999).
- June 10th - Harald Juhnke , German actor, singer and entertainer was born as Harry Heinz Herbert Juhnke in the Berlin district of Wedding († 2005).
- August 24th - Paul Lendvai , Austrian publicist, journalist and television commentator, is born in Budapest.
- September 14th - Hans Clarin , German actor and voice actor (voice of Pumuckl in the children's series Meister Eder und seine Pumuckl ) was born as Hans-Joachim Schmid in Wilhelmshaven († 2005).
- September 24th - Willy Kralik , Austrian television presenter ( senior club ) was born in Vienna († 2003).
- October 9 - Vladimír Menšík , Czech actor ( The Hospital on the Outskirts of the City , The Visitors ) was born in Ivančice († 1988).
- October 14th - Norbert Gastell , German actor and voice actor (German voice of Homer Simpson ) is born in Buenos Aires .
- November 23rd - Günter Gaus , German television journalist, diplomat and politician is born in Braunschweig . Gaus was best known for his long-standing series of interviews on the person and on the protocol († 2004).
Died
- August 3rd - Emil Berliner , German inventor dies at the age of 78 in Washington, (DC) . Berliner is considered to be the main inventor of the record and gramophone.
- December 21st - Ernst Pündter , German actor, theater director, radio play speaker and director at NORAG , as well as broadcasting director of the Bremen branch , dies at the age of 45 in Bremen .
