Sony first generation Video 8 camera

General

  • Sony introduces the Video 8 standard. The cassettes, which are about the size of a Philips compact cassette , occupied the largest market segment among the amateur film formats until they were replaced by digital formats around the turn of the millennium . In addition to being used in cameras, stand-alone devices are built, which are rarely used, for which recorded cassettes were also offered until the end of the 1980s.
  • The organization Reporters without Frontiers ( Reporters sans frontièrs ) is founded in Montpellier , France . The aim is to stand up for press freedom and against censorship worldwide .
