Mini-ZiB (also MiniZiB ) was a news program for children of the ORF , based on the standard news programs of the ORF with the name Zeit im Bild ("ZiB"). It was broadcast from 1985 to 1997, from 1986 also on 3sat . The show's mascot was Quaxi , a living frog that was shown during the weather report and was loaned by the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna . The target group were 9 to 13 year old children.

Description and history

Although the Mini-ZiB was the better known news program for children, it was already available before 1985 by the editorial team of Am dam des messages for children of preschool age. It is therefore not a predecessor of the Mini-ZiB, which was designed for school children.

The program was developed by Angela Maas , among others , with Norbert Steidl in charge of the program . It included news from global and regional daily politics as well as entertaining and educational topics. The world of children in other countries was also shown. The main moderator of the program was the well-known news anchor Hans Georg Heinke .

Mini-ZiB was broadcast at 4:55 p.m., at 6 p.m. the repetition was on 3Sat. The length of the broadcast was about 10 minutes. In recent years, the program was brought forward on the initiative of General Director Gerhard Zeiler , as the time slot at 5 p.m. was no longer reserved for children.

From 1995 Matthias Euba was editor and designer of the show. Under him, the children's news was integrated into the children's program Confetti TiVi . In 1997 the Mini-ZiB was finally discontinued and replaced by Confetti News .

criticism

In the children's television handbook , the program was criticized for the fact that "nested sentences are used and foreign words are not explained".
