  • In 1951, numerous transcontinental television premieres took place in the USA (see September 4th and 22nd and October 2nd).
  • January 23rd - The Emmy Awards, which are being presented for the third time, include the Truth or Consequences quiz show .
  • June 25 - The US premieres a color television commercial .
  • September 4 - The live report of the peace negotiations with Japan in San Francisco is the first television program to be broadcast transcontinentally in North America.
  • September 22 - In the US, a sporting event, the match between the football teams of Duke University and the University of Pittsburgh , will be broadcast transcontinental for the first time.
  • September 27th - The Grundig factory transmitter in Fürth begins regular broadcasting .
  • October 2nd - Danish (DR1) and Dutch (Nederland 1) television start their regular operations.
  • October 2nd - The World Series season will be televised for the first time live across the United States.
  • Oct. 15 - On CBS has the series I Love Lucy with Lucille Ball premiere. I love Lucy is considered the first sitcom in television history and has therefore shaped the genre to the present day. For the first time, the episodes will not be broadcast live, as was customary up to then, but instead recorded on film (in front of an audience, hence the typical laughs in the background).
  • October 17th - Argentina enters the television age.
  • December - The German TV broadcaster (DFF) begins its public trial operation.
