George Augustus La Dow

George Augustus La Dow (born March 18, 1826 in Syracuse , New York , † May 1, 1875 in Pendleton , Oregon ) was an American politician . He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1874 , but died before he could officially take up his parliamentary office.

Career

George La Dow came to McHenry County , Illinois , as a child . There he attended public schools. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1850, he began to work in his new profession in Waupaca ( Wisconsin ). From 1860 to 1862 he was a district attorney in Waupaca County . In 1862, La Dow moved to Wilton , what is now Minnesota . There he continued his legal practice. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1868 to 1869 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota . In 1869 he moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where he also worked as a lawyer.

From 1872 to 1874, La Dow was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives . In 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives with a margin of only 302 votes against Republican Richard Williams . Before the new Congress, whose official legislative period began on March 4, 1875, was constituted, George La Dow died on May 1 of the same year.
