Jim Bunn
James Bunn (born December 12, 1956 in McMinnville , Oregon ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Between 1995 and 1997 he represented the fifth constituency of the state of Oregon in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jim Bunn attended Dayton Union High School and then Chemeketa Community College until 1977 . He graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in 1979 . He then became a lieutenant in the Oregon National Guard reserves.
Between 1987 and 1995, Bunn was a member of the Oregon Senate . In 1994 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he replaced the no longer running Democrat Mike Kopetski on January 3, 1995 . However, he could only complete one term in Congress because he was not re-elected in 1996. His defeat was related to the fact that he paid his second wife, Sonja Skurdal, who also worked as his assistant, more salary than any other assistant received at the time. Shortly before his wedding to Skurdal, after 17 years of marriage, he divorced his first wife, with whom he had five children. All of this was successfully used against him in the election campaign.
After retiring from Congress, Bunn became an overseer at the Yamhill County County Jail in Oregon, an unusual career descent for a former congressman. In 2008 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Oregon House of Representatives . His older brother Stan and younger brother Tom had previously belonged to this group.
