Robert R. Butler

Robert Reyburn Butler (born September 24, 1881 in Butler , Johnson County , Tennessee , † January 7, 1933 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician .

Butler visited the Law School of Cumberland University in Lebanon . In 1903, after graduating from college, he was admitted to the bar and practiced in Mountain City , Tennessee. In 1906 he moved to Oregon and settled in Condon . Butler began practicing again there. He later became mayor of the city. From February 1909 to January 1911 he was a judge in the 11th District Court of Oregon. Butler now moved to The Dalles , where he began to practice again. From 1913 to 1917 and again from 1925 to 1929 he was a Senator in the Oregon Senate .

On November 6, 1928, Butler was elected as a Republican in Congress to fill the vacant seat of Nicholas J. Sinnott in the US House of Representatives . This had previously resigned. Butler remained a member of the House of Representatives until his death. He died in Washington in January 1933 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at The Dalles.

Robert Reyburn Butler was a grandson of Roderick R. Butler , who sat for Tennessee in the US House of Representatives.
