Edwin Russell Durno (born January 26, 1899 in Linn County , Oregon , † November 20, 1976 in Medford , Oregon) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Oregon in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Durno attended the public schools in Silverton and then until 1921 the University of Oregon . During this time he was a successful basketball player ; later he was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame because of his achievements . His studies were interrupted by the First World War, in which he participated as a sergeant in the infantry. From 1921 to 1923 he was a teacher and athletics coach. He then studied medicine at Harvard University until 1927 .

After his admission as a doctor, Durno opened a practice in Boston in 1927 . During World War II he was a major in a medical unit. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his achievements during the war . After the war he returned to Oregon, where he worked as a doctor in Medford. Between 1947 and 1958, he was also a member of the Board of Medical Examiners of Oregon.

Edwin Durno became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1958 and 1960 he was a member of the Oregon Senate . In 1960 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the fourth constituency of Oregon, where he replaced Charles O. Porter on January 3, 1961 . In 1962 Durno declined to run again. Instead, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate . After the end of his political activities in Congress , Durno returned to Medford, where he again worked as a doctor. He died there in 1976.
