Suzanne Bonamici (born October 14, 1954 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . She has represented the state of Oregon in the US House of Representatives since January 2012 .

Career

Suzanne Bonamici attended Lane Community College in Eugene until 1978 . She then studied journalism at the University of Oregon there until 1980 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1983, she began working for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, DC . There she worked as a lawyer in the field of consumer protection. She later practiced as a private lawyer in Portland .

Bonamici was a member of the Oregon House of Representatives in 2007 and 2008 ; from 2008 to 2011 she was a member of the State Senate . She was chair of the consumer protection and public affairs committees. She was also a member of the Justice and Education Committees.

After the resignation of MP David Wu , Bonamici was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the due by-election for the 1st Congressional constituency of Oregon, where she took up her new mandate on January 31, 2012. In Congress , she was a member of the Budget Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee . She is or was a member of the Committee on Education and the Workforce. In the regular election in November 2012 , she prevailed with 60 to 33 percent of the vote against the Republican Delinda Morgan. As she was confirmed in the 2014 and 2016 elections, she is also a member of the current 115th United States Congress . Your mandate runs until January 3, 2019.

Suzanne Bonamici is married to Federal Judge Michael H. Simon , with whom she has two adult children.
