Senior club

The senior citizens' club was a television program on ORF that was broadcast on Sundays from 1968 to 2000 (a total of 1238 episodes).

The stage of the show was a café set up in the studio , the staff of the café was mimed by the team of moderators. Fixed points on every program were the humorous dialogues between the moderators Willy Kralik ("Secretary" of the senior citizens 'club for ever) and Ernst Hagen , who invented the senior citizens' club together with Michael Danzinger , with employees and artists of the café and his prominent guests. After Ernst Hagen's death, he was replaced by Dolf Lindner (from 1984) and finally by the former figure skater and ORF program announcer Ingrid Wendl (from 1993).

In every program, doctors or consultants were asked about relevant topics, prominent artists and young performers gave samples of their skills, including many opera stars and concert virtuosos. "Employees" were the waiter (embodied successively by Kurt Sobotka from December 14, 1968 to September 26, 1970, Ossy Kolmann on October 30, 1970 and November 28, 1970, Alfred Böhm from December 26, 1970 and later Rudolf Buczolich ) at the Side of the lively waitress Fräulein Anni (played by Hilli Reschl ). There was also an often grumpy regular who played Heinrich Schweiger . For many years the cabaret artist Lore Krainer performed in the café and performed cabaret pieces of music.

From December 14, 1968 to 2000, the "Seniors Club" was broadcast on ORF. First monthly, later weekly. The pianist Michael Danzinger, who died in 2007, was the musical accompanist from the first to the last broadcast , and not only played the distinctive opening melody.

The guests met regularly at the bar and were involved in humorous conversations by Ober Alfred and Miss Anni . Among them were many regulars who with the operation serene with piano accompaniment song sang (mostly songs from the pen of a cabaret artist teams). The fact that Walther Birkmayer , who regularly appeared as a doctor in the "senior citizens' club" and provided information on health issues, had played an extremely inglorious role during the Nazi era was only discussed after his death.

In 2000, the senior citizens' club was replaced by the magazine Schöner Leben , which was supposed to take into account the changed status and self-image of the generation over 50.
