Alfred Driver

Alfred Driver (* 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian radio journalist. From 1995 to June 30, 2010 he was program manager at Ö1 .

Life

Driver was already active as a journalist for a Catholic school newspaper while he was still in high school . After graduating from high school , he studied German language and literature, philosophy, art history and theater studies at the University of Vienna and joined the editorial team of “ Furche ” while still a student . According to his own statements, he moved into Friedrich Heer's former desk there .

In 1966 he finally came to ORF , where a year later he was part of the “youth editorial team” founded by Gerd Bacher . In the newly founded special- interest broadcaster Ö3 , he worked for programs such as “ Die Musicbox ” or “Talente und Tendenzen”. Together with Richard Goll, driver is considered to be the “Austrian inventor” of the radio feature . Some of his works have received international attention and have been awarded prizes, such as B. The Sun Train (1978, together with Richard Goll) or A Faithful Servant of His Lord and the Lord (1982, together with Reinhard Schlögl).

In the 1970s, he was a supporter of the radio in Afghanistan as part of a UNESCO project . Through this activity he designed several features. In 1987 he became head of the then newly created "Literature and Feature Department" and in 1995 he was finally the program director of Ö1.

Awards

In 2010, Alfredreiber received the Axel Eggebrecht Prize from the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig together with Richard Goll . In 2011 he was named Journalist of the Year 2011 . He received this award for his life's work . In the same year he was awarded the Great Merit of the State of Salzburg.
