Babbelgamm was a multi-part German television program from 1977 designed for children's programs. It was commissioned by ZDF in coproduction with the Austrian television broadcaster ORF . It was subtitled “ Stories of Laughing and Lies with Peter Rapp ”. This also led through the show as a moderator.

The title is a Germanization and at the same time corruption of the English word bubblegum , which means both chewing gum and refers to a popular form of pop music at the time the series was produced .

In Babbelgamm , mainly children and young people acted who performed skits and performed dance and performing choreographies for the musical guests appearing in the program. Recurring characters in the series were a pair of twins consisting of two boys and a teenage girl in costume as a singer, who, based on Maria Callas , made glasses and mirrors shatter with a high-pitched singing voice.

The title melody of the same name was composed by Gershon Kingsley . In the opening credits, children can be seen in a studio setting and a. shimmy on a climbing frame. In this prologue, the German actor and show master Thomas Ohrner had one of his first television appearances as a youth with a leg in plaster, who taps the beat of the theme song.

Babbelgamm was broadcast in Germany by ZDF as part of the “ ZDF Ferienprogramm ” broadcast in the summer . The last broadcast date was the summer of 1985.
