Kerry Packer

Kerry Francis Bullmore Packer (born December 17, 1937 in Sydney , Australia , † December 26, 2005 there ) was an Australian media entrepreneur . Packer was considered the richest man in Australia.

Life

After his father's death in 1974, Kerry Packer took over the business of Australian Consolidated Press (ACP), which was founded in 1933 and sells many of Australia's magazines and newspapers. Under his leadership the company grew steadily and in 1994 became Publishing and Broadcasting Limited . The company was involved in various media companies. These included the television network The Nine Network and some equity investments in pay-TV offers. In 1998 he passed the management of his media empire to his son James Packer .

He ranked 111th on Forbes Magazine's annual list of the richest people in 2004. His fortune was at that time to 5.2 billion US dollars estimated.
