In the Amt Am Schmollensee ( district of Ostvorpommern in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ), which existed since 1992, the five municipalities of Bansin , Benz , Mellenthin , Neppermin and Pudagla were united to deal with their administrative business. On May 22, 2004, Neppermin was incorporated into Benz. The administrative headquarters were in Bansin.

The Am Schmollensee office was dissolved on January 1, 2005 and incorporated into the existing Usedom-Süd department with the Ahlbeck to Stettiner Haff and Usedom-Mitte island, which were also dissolved . The previously independent municipality of Bansin was merged with Ahlbeck and the formerly non-official municipality of Heringsdorf to form the non-official municipality of Dreikaiserbäder, which has been called Heringsdorf since January 1, 2006.
