Werner Geier

Werner Geier (* 1962 in Mürzzuschlag ; † November 12, 2007 in Vienna ) was an Austrian radio journalist , label operator and producer.

Life

Geier's self-portrayal was: “Werner Geier, learned nothing.” His parents owned a cinema. In 1982 he began to work in Vienna for the ORF radio show Die Musicbox , which he ran together with Fritz Ostermayer in the late 1980s .

Later he was in charge of setting up the youth channel FM4 , about which he "preferred not to talk" in later years. With his programs “Tribe Vibes” and “Rough Mix” (as DJ Demon Flowers) he was one of the first to popularize hip-hop in Austria.

As a music producer he achieved the international hit Boundaries with the Viennese formation HipHop-Finger and the singer Leena Conquest , and he also worked for Massive Attack and Stereo MCs . He received a Grammy nomination for Mark Murphy's Song for the Geese in 1998 .

In the 1990s he ran the now discontinued record label Uptight together with Rodney Hunter .

Werner Geier died on November 12, 2007 after a long illness.

Geier's great uncle was the actor Werner Pochath .
