Moneta is a civil parish in Bedford County , Virginia , along Route 122 between Bedford and Rocky Mount . Moneta serves as the postal address for homes on Smith Mountain Lake. The Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church and Holland-Duncan House are listed as Cultural Landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places .
Moneta was popularized as the location for the American comedy film What About Bob? with Bill Murray from 1991.
In 2015, Moneta received global media coverage as the scene of the murder of Alison Parker and Adam Ward and the serious wound of Vicki Gardner, chairman of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce.
