Rocky Mount is a small town ( Town ) and administrative center ( the county seat ) in Franklin County in the US state of Virginia . The city is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area and had a population of 4,799 according to the 2010 census. The settlement is located in the Roanoke region of Virginia.

Booker T. Washington National Monument is about 15 kilometers northeast of Rocky Mount .

geography

Rocky Mount is located in central Franklin County. US Route 220 passes the east side of the city and runs 23 miles (37 km) north to Roanoke and 26 miles (42 km) south to Martinsville. Virginia State Route 40 goes through the center of Rocky Mount as Pell Avenue and Franklin Street. They run 32 miles (51 km) east to Gretna and 10 miles (16 km) southwest to Ferrum.
