Ernst Trost (born February 11, 1933 in Knittelfeld ; † July 24, 2015 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian journalist and book author, best known for his daily column “What is behind it”, which has been published since the paper was founded in 1959 appeared in the Kronen Zeitung .

Life

After graduating from high school , Trost studied law for several semesters at the University of Graz , but did not graduate. He began his journalistic career in 1954 at the Kleine Zeitung in Graz , whose editor-in-chief was Hans Dichand at the time. From 1955 to 1958 Trost was editor of the New Courier , also under Dichand's direction. When Dichand re-founded the Kronen-Zeitung together with Kurt Falk in 1959 , Trost was one of the first editors of the new newspaper and worked there until the end. Trost mainly wrote reports on foreign policy issues as well as his column. After Dichand and Falk took over the Express newspaper in 1970, Trost was its editor-in-chief until it was discontinued in April 1971.

Until his death he published a total of 16 books on Austrian and Central European history, some of which were great successes with the public. He also worked as a documentary filmmaker and was involved in over 100 documentaries. In 1971 Trost received the Dr.-Karl-Renner-Publizistikpreis , in 2011 the Leopold-Kunschak-Pressepreis .

Trost was one of Dichand's closest companions and also wrote the obituary, which was published in the Krone .

His grave is on the Sieveringer Friedhof (section 1, room 1, no. 11) in Vienna .
