James Best

James Best (born July 26, 1926 in Powderly , Kentucky , † April 6, 2015 in Hickory , North Carolina ; born Jules Guy ) was an American actor.

Life

James Best was born in a small village in Kentucky to the Everly Brothers on his mother's side, his cousins. After his mother died of tuberculosis in 1929, Best was adopted by the couple Armen and Essa Best of Corydon , Indiana . After serving in the Second World War , he became an actor and initially worked as a theater actor for a few years.

The beginning of his film career was a small role in the western One Way Street (1950), in the same year Best also played alongside James Stewart in Winchester '73 . Although he was used in other genres, he appeared primarily as a supporting actor in western films and series. He had one of his few leading roles in the B horror film The Night of the Eerie Beasts (1959). Until his death he worked in more than 600 film and television productions. He gained particular fame through his role as the slightly idiot sheriff "Rosco P. Coltrane" in the television series A Duke rarely comes alone .

James Best lived in Florida until his death, where he worked not only as an actor but also as a teacher and lecturer (primarily acting classes). He was married three times, most recently to Dorothy Best from 1986 until his death. He had two daughters and a son. He died in 2015 at the age of 88 from complications from pneumonia.
