Day of Lower Saxony
The Day of Lower Saxony (TdN) is a three-day cultural festival in the German state of Lower Saxony that has been held since 1981. The venue is a different city in Lower Saxony. The festival took place annually until 2015, and every two years since then.
purpose
At the festival, the participants present the country's cultural diversity and introduce it to a large audience. The event should be a meeting place, also for young and old. Further purposes of the TdN are to consolidate national awareness, identify with their own country and increase the feeling of togetherness in Lower Saxony. The TdN automatically serves the reputation of Lower Saxony and also contributes to increasing the image of the respective host city. In the long term, the organizing municipalities hope that this will stimulate tourism.
organization
The TdN is organized by the host city and the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport. Another sponsor of the event is a board of trustees consisting of around 40 state umbrella organizations, clubs, radio and television broadcasters and the former host cities.
The event has been taking place every two years in a different municipality since 2015. Exceptions to this have been Wolfsburg as the host in 1983, 2005 and 2017; Hamelin as the host in 1986 and 2009; Celle as host in 1981 and 2010; Aurich as host in 1982 and 2011 and Goslar as host in 1989 and 2013. The Lower Saxony Day was not held in 2014 because the state of Lower Saxony hosted the celebrations for the Day of German Unity on October 3 in Hanover this year .
Although there are no set rules for applying from a municipality, some requirements should be met. This includes that the host city should not have a minimum population of 20,000. The city should have a large catchment area and good transport links (road, rail). The city's locations should be suitable for a large event with around 200,000 visitors. The Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior does not consider a tight budget situation in a municipality to be an obstacle to carrying out the TdN, because the event is of supraregional interest.
Attendees
Many public and private institutions that are active in Lower Saxony and feel connected to this federal state take part in the TdN (such as traditional costume and homeland associations, state parliament , state offices and ministries, Lower Saxony police , federal police , THW and armed forces , Caritas , Diakonie ). In addition, all previous host cities of the TdN present themselves with their own stands. The event is supported by various public and private radio and television stations (such as NDR , Radio ffn , Hit-Radio Antenne and Radio 21 ), which on the one hand have their own program stages with music and dance performances, and on the other hand also report live from the festival .
