The Heimatbund Niedersachsen e. V. ( HBN ) is an association that, in cooperation with state and local authorities , aims to provide general education on the main topic of home, with a focus on nature conservation , environmental protection , and the preservation of monuments and culture . Membership is open to natural and legal persons.
history
As early as 1898 a Lower Saxony regulars' table was formed in Hanover , whose members wanted to promote and protect the local language, literature and architecture. Three years later they founded in VierJahresZeiten on Aegidientorplatz the Heimatbund Lower Saxony as a registered association - thus the Heimatbund Lower Saxony is Germany's oldest home club .
In addition to the banker and politician August Basse, the founding fathers included numerous writers and visual artists, including Julius Kettler , who became the first chairman, Hermann Löns , the brothers Friedrich and August Freudenthal , Heinrich Vogeler from the Worpswede artists' colony , Lulu von Strauss and Torney , Börries von Münchhausen and Hermann Claudius .
As early as 1902, the Heimatbund Lower Saxony initiated the Lower Saxony Day (not: Day of Lower Saxony ) as a central event for home care. Starting with the constituent meeting on October 6, 1905, the organizing committee, known as the Representatives' Day, formed a separate supporting organization for the Lower Saxony Day, which was entered in the register of associations in 1934 under the name of Lower Saxony Home Protection .
Seven years after the association was founded, in 1908 the opening of the Vaterländisches Museum - today's Historical Museum - in Hanover was another goal of the association.
During the Nazi era , the association had to change its name to Hannoversche Heimatfreunde and was transferred to the Gauheimatwerk in 1942. It was founded again on May 10, 1946 under the old traditional name.
On October 15, 2018, the office of the Heimatbund Lower Saxony moved from Walsroder Straße 89 in Langenhagen to the Groß-Buchholzer Kirchweg 73 building in Hanover.
Cord boron trick stone
In 2008, the Heimatbund Lower Saxony, under the patronage of the Lord Mayor of the state capital Hanover, awarded the Cord-Borgentrick stone for the first time to people who have volunteered for history, monument preservation or tradition in Hanover. The prize, named after the Hanoverian citizen Cord Borgentrick , is awarded in the New Town Hall and the corresponding stone is set in the memorial grove on the Döhrener Tower .
