Wim Mauthe (born August 20, 1947 in Oberstdorf , Allgäu ) is a German musician ( Dixie style ) and a representative of abstract painting.

Wim Mauthe was born on August 20, 1947 in Oberstdorf im Allgäu. After attending school, he began studying dentistry and completed it in 1973 with a doctorate as Dr. med. dent. He worked as a practicing dentist in Fischen im Allgäu until the early 1990s . Wim Mauthe lives and works in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Musical career

In 1958 Mauthe's career as a musician began with piano and clarinet lessons , some of which were self-taught . He had his first employment as a band leader from 1968 to 1970, since then he had founded and directed several bands:

  • Bandleader in the early years:
    • Willys Weepers, Munich
    • Original Cazard Jazz Band, Lausanne
  • Establishment of well-known jazz bands:
    • Happy Mountains Stompers
    • Wim's Gloryland jazz band
    • Wim's Paradise Jazz Band

He also performed with many well-known greats from the New Orleans jazz scene : Leroy Jones , Sammy Rimington or Lillian Boutté and others.

He has performed at major national and international jazz events and festivals, for example in Kempten , Ulm , Dornbirn ( A ), Ascona ( CH ) and Sargans ( CH ). His last major international appearances were between 2007 and 2009 at the Ascona Jazz Festival in Switzerland with the formation Dr. Wim's Jazz Affair .

Artistic career

In addition to his career as a musician and Wim Mauthe also active as a painter. He has been a freelance painter since 1990, teaching courses in southern France, Greece and Bali. He laid the foundation stone in 1979 with an apprenticeship with Josef Zenzmaier in Salzburg and Arnulf Heimhofer in Burgberg im Allgäu . He is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (South Baden) and still has very close contact with his former home.
