Hinrich Braasch

Hinrich Braasch (* July 21, 1878 in Kutenholz ; † February 16, 1968 in Bissendorf , Wedemark ; also: Hinnerk ) was a Low German writer. He wrote texts, poems and radio reports and campaigned for the preservation of the Low German nature and character.

Braasch moved from the Stader Land to Bissendorf as a young teacher at Easter 1904 and married his wife Sophie on July 21, 1904. The marriage resulted in two daughters. Around 1930 he acquired and moved into the former pleasure house in the large district garden in Bissendorf (today Im Wöhren 5 ), which he called Haus Urfried .

Braasch wrote texts, poems and contributions for school radio and dialect radio broadcasts, which were broadcast on NORAG , Reichssender Hamburg and NWDR . He became an honorary member of the Heimatbund Lower Saxony .

On August 12, 1954, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class, for his services to the Low German language . It was presented to him on the occasion of his 76th birthday on September 2, 1954 by Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Hinrich Kopf and the President of the State Parliament, Karl Olfers .

In 1967 the sculptor Gertrud Grewe , who worked in Bissendorf, created a bust of Braasch.

The life and work of Hinrich Braasch is remembered in the Richard Brandt Museum of Local History in Bissendorf.
