Venues of the Thuringian Day

The Thuringian Day is a multi-day festival in Thuringia .

The organizers of this state festival are the Thuringian state government and the respective host city. The fixed program of the Thuringian Day includes a parade.

history

The Thuringian Day was held for the first time in 1996, when Federal President Roman Herzog was also in Altenburg . A highlight of the parade was the Altenburger peasant riding .

In 2004 no Thuringian Day was organized because the Free State of Thuringia was the host of the central ceremony for the Day of German Unity in Erfurt . Instead, there was a citizens' festival with the motto 15 years of peace and freedom for Europe .

The motto of the Thuringian Day 2006 was "Rendezvous in Jena". The background is the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt . The festival was celebrated as a friendship festival for the "Franco-German Year 2006" and therefore took place on the French national holiday as before at the beginning of October. 300,000 visitors were counted.

In 2006, the Thuringian State Cabinet decided to only allow the festival to take place every two years from 2007 for reasons of economy. In addition, the date is to be permanently moved from the period of the Day of German Unity to summer time

In 2007 the event took place in Eisenach in July, since 2007 was celebrated as the "Elisabeth Year" on the 800th birthday of Elisabeth of Thuringia . 300,000 visitors were counted. Until 2007, Michael opinion was the project manager of the events. In 2009 around 200,000 people took part in the festival.
