Konrad Toenz

Konrad Toenz (born May 23, 1939 in St. Moritz ; † February 22, 2015 in Zurich ) was a Swiss radio journalist with the Swiss radio DRS . He gained greater prominence as a television presenter through the show Aktenzeichen XY ... unresolved , in which he announced search reports from the police and information from viewers from the Zurich recording studio.

Family, education and beginnings

Konrad Toenz comes from a Vals family. He was born in St. Moritz, where his father worked as a porter in Suvretta House , escaping unemployment in the Heimattal. He first went to school in Ilanz before the family moved to Zurich in 1948. He did an apprenticeship as a typographer and then worked in advertising. In 1967 he started working as a freelance journalist for Swiss radio with a focus on police and court reporting as well as aviation .

Toenz moderated the postings from Aktenzeichen XY to Zurich for the first time on January 16, 1976 as successor to Werner Vetterli . He handed this position over to his former office colleague at Swiss Radio Stephan Schifferer on September 25, 1998 . Toenz also appeared again on May 10, 2007 as a guest of honor in the 400th broadcast of Aktenzeichen XY ... unsolved .

Due to his dry style of moderation in front of an office-like decoration, Toenz, together with co-moderator Peter Nidetzky from ORF and ZDF presenter Eduard Zimmermann, became an “icon of the 70s”. As an aftermath of this popularity, the musician Ingo Kupfer alias Tony Random and Jeanette Kneuker converted their 1970s pub in Berlin-Kreuzberg into the Konrad Tönz Bar on December 16, 1996 . Eduard Zimmermann and Butz Peters were guests there, and Toenz himself several times. There a cocktail was named after Toenz. The Konrad Toenz consists of vodka , cream , orange juice and crème de cassis .

In 2004 and 2005, Toenz and Peter Nidetzky promoted the collection of PET bottles in Switzerland for recycling purposes in television spots . In order to avoid the impending compulsory deposit for PET bottles, a voluntary return rate of 75 percent had to be achieved in the long term, which was not achieved until 2007, despite the commercials parodying the old XY live broadcasts.

Businessman

In 1984 he gave up his work at the radio and became managing director of the company PMA Presse- und Medienarchiv AG media observation newspaper clipping service in Zurich. The merger with ZMS Zahn Marketing Services resulted in the ZMS / PMA Medienbeobachtung AG in Aettenschwil in 2000 . Konrad Toenz was a member of the Board of Directors until August 4, 2011. By 2007, he was also his wife Board of Directors of the PMA Beteiligungen AG continued PMA .

He was the owner and only authorized signatory of Konrad Toenz, Public Relations , a company for public relations , public relations and press work in Gockhausen near Zurich, founded in 1990 .

Private

Toenz had four children from his first marriage and was married to the DRS employee Elsbeth Toenz for the second time. He lived in Gockhausen.

Toenz died on February 22, 2015 in Zurich at the age of 75 of complications from cancer.
