Geraldine McEwan
Geraldine McEwan (born as: Geraldine McKeown ; born May 9, 1932 in Old Windsor , Berkshire , † January 30, 2015 in London ) was a British film and theater actress .
Life
Geraldine McEwan had been on stage since she was 14 when she made her debut at the Theater Royal in Windsor in 1946 . In 1950, four years later, she was already a sought-after actress in London's well-known West End theater district . In the 1950s McEwan got an engagement at the Shakespeare Memorial Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon , before she became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1961 .
McEwan was in great demand in England as a theater actress who convinced in plays such as Much Ado About Nothing , Hamlet and Pericles, Prince of Tire and went on tours with the theater to Moscow and Leningrad, among others .
Her film and television career began in 1953 and was initially limited to British films. One of her first better-known films was the 1989 theatrical adaptation of Henry V , starring alongside Kenneth Branagh . Movie fans will also remember McEwan's portrayal of the sorceress Mortianna in the 1991 adventure film Robin Hood - The Thief King . In 2004 McEwan was selected for the role of Miss Marple in Agatha Christie's Marple and was in front of the camera in twelve full-length crime films until 2007 as the well-known detective.
Geraldine McEwan was to be appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) in 1986, but she declined with thanks. It was the same in 2002, when they wanted to ennoble her as Dame Commander of the Bath (DBE).
She was married to British film producer Hugh Cruttwell from 1953 until his death in August 2002 , who was director of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1965 to 1984 . The couple had two children, son Greg Cruttwell , who worked as an actor in the 1990s.
Geraldine McEwan died on January 30, 2015 of complications from a stroke suffered in October 2014 at Charing Cross Hospital in London .
