Ten year old Paul lives with his mother Mel and younger brother in a shabby area in London's East End. After the death of his father, Paul is suddenly on his own, because his mother Mel has long since passed responsibility for her life to her dealer Lenny, who not only supplies her with heroin, but is also her lover. But Paul fights relentlessly to win back his drug-addicted mother and protect his little brother. He gets help from his waitress friend Louise. It wasn't until Mel was devastated and confronted with the devastating effects of her drug addiction on her family that there was hope again ...
