action
The action takes place in 1972. The London hippie woman Julia and her two young daughters travel to Morocco , where Julia seeks spiritual inspiration. There she falls in love with the local Bilal, who works in a quarry, but also lives from theft and fraud.
The local women cannot understand Julia, while Eva, who is a friend, urges her to study. The family goes through financial difficulties. Julia's older daughter Bea misses school. In the end, Bilal pays Julia and her daughters for the return trip to England.
criticism
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was a " different kind of road movie ". He praised the "first-class" performance by Kate Winslet and the "charismatic" play by Saïd Taghmaoui. The camera work shows the beauty of the desert, which would become one of the main characters.
