Kevin McKidd (born August 9, 1973 in Elgin , Scotland ) is a Scottish-American film and stage actor and director .

biography

Kevin McKidd, who grew up in Elgin (Scotland), was a member of a youth theater in Moray in his youth , but initially did not want to become an actor. Instead, he began studying engineering at Edinburgh University . During his studies McKidd came into contact with the theater again when he became a member of the Bedlam University Theater .

From that point on, he decided to become an actor, dropped out and attended the Queen Margaret Drama School . With the support of Robert Carlyle , he made his first professional stage appearance in the play The Silver Darlings by Neil M. Gunn and in 1996 his film debut in Trainspotting - New Heroes by Danny Boyle . Since then he has appeared in various feature film productions. From 2005 to 2007 he played the leading role of the Roman centurion Lucius Vorenus in the television series Rome . In 2010 he played the sea god Poseidon in the film Percy Jackson - Thieves in Olympus .

His most famous role so far is that of Owen Hunt in the television series Grey's Anatomy , which he has played since 2008. McKidd also directed several episodes of the series .

The native Scot is also an avid musician. After being one of the leading soloists in the musical episode Song beneath the song by Grey's Anatomy, he recorded a CD with friends, acquaintances and musicians from his home region at the end of 2011. The resulting album is called Speyside Sessions and contains mostly Scottish folk songs. The proceeds from the project go to the aid organization Save the Children .

McKidd has lived in Los Angeles since 2008 due to his involvement in the television series Grey's Anatomy . He has been married to Jane Parker since 1999 and they have a son and a daughter together. He and his family were granted citizenship of the United States in August 2015 . In early July 2016, it was revealed that he and his wife filed for divorce after separating back in October 2015.
