19th European Police Congress 2016

The European Police Congress is a two-day internal policy conference held annually in February in Berlin , organized by the private organizer, Officials Spiegel . It is one of the largest specialist conferences on internal security in the European Union . In the accompanying exhibition in 2016 mainly IT companies and IT service providers presented themselves, as well as individual armaments companies and companies that manufacture surveillance and security technology. Police unions and the Federal Criminal Police Office (Germany) were also represented .

At the 22nd European Police Congress 2019, the President of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), Holger Münch , and Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the Austrian National Council, were present as speakers.

The 21st European Police Congress 2018 took place with around 1,800 participants. Speakers included the President of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), Holger Münch, and Hans-Georg Maaßen , President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV).

The 20th European Police Congress 2017 with around 1,800 participants also took place with the participation of Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière , Austrian Interior Minister Mag. Wolfgang Sobotka, Fabrice Leggeri , Executive Director Frontex , Nicoletta della Valle , Director of the Swiss Federal Police Office ( fedpol ), Hans- Georg Maaßen , President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and Arne Schönbohm , President of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

Almost 1,600 participants attended the 19th European Police Congress in 2016. The main themes of the conference were Internet crime , organized crime and terrorism . The main speakers in 2016 included the head of the Federal Chancellery Peter Altmaier , the President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maaßen, and the terrorism researcher Peter R. Neumann .

The Congress has led to demonstrations and riots for several years. In addition to its content orientation, the event is also accused of a lack of transparency.

The 17th European Police Congress took place in 2014 under the title "Interfaces of the Security Architecture: National - European - Global". The 18th European Police Congress met in 2015 under the title Challenges and Limits of Security in Freedom. Infrastructure and architecture of European security in the Berlin Congress Center (bcc). Essential components of the 2015 program were the importance of the Schengen area for freedom and crime, the role of a Europe that is growing closer together for organized crime and terrorism, and cooperation between customs and police. During the 18th European Police Congress, u. a. Jürgen Stock , General Secretary of Interpol , spoke to the participants. In addition, specialist forums were held on topics such as cyber crime, industrial espionage and predictive policing .
