Jürgen Stock (born October 4, 1959 in Wetzlar ) is a fully qualified German lawyer and General Secretary of Interpol . Until the beginning of November 2014 he was Vice President at the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). Since 2006 he has also been an honorary professor for criminology in the Law Faculty of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

Life

Career

Jürgen Stock initially worked as a detective in Hesse from 1978 to 1987 and studied law from 1984 to 1990, from 1988 onwards as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . From 1990 to 1993 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Giessen. This was followed by the legal clerkship from 1993 to 1995 , which he ended with taking the Grand State Examination. After a brief activity as a lawyer, he was a consultant at the BKA from 1996 to 1998.

In 1998, Stock was appointed professor and founding rector of the Saxony-Anhalt Police College. From 1999 to 2000 he was chairman of the conference of the rectors / presidents of the police colleges, head of the police departments of the administrative colleges and deputy chairman of the conference of the rectors of the technical colleges for the public service.

In 2000, Stock returned to the Federal Criminal Police Office and took over the management of the “Criminal Institute” department before he was appointed Vice President of the BKA on September 1, 2004.

At the 76th General Assembly of the international police organization ICPO-Interpol in November 2007 in Marrakech ( Morocco ), Stock was elected Vice-President of Interpol for a period of three years. His term of office ended normally in 2010.

At the 83rd Interpol General Assembly in Monaco in 2014, Stock was elected as the new General Secretary. He succeeds Ronald K. Noble .
