Holger Münch (born August 17, 1961 in Bremen ) has been President of the Federal Criminal Police Office since December 1, 2014 . Before that he was State Councilor for the Senator for Interior and Sports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and Police President of the Bremen Police .

Education, work and family

Münch joined the Bremen police in 1978 and initially worked for the Bremen riot police. He then completed a degree at a university of applied sciences with a degree in administrative management (FH) .

After assignments within the Bremen Police Headquarters, he worked at the Federal Criminal Police Office from 1987 to 1991 with a focus on reconnaissance, personal protection with periods of use in state security.

From 1991 to 1993 he performed investigative and managerial tasks (ASL) in various commissariats of the Bremen criminal police. From 1993 to 1995 he completed his training for the higher police enforcement service at the Police Leadership Academy in Münster-Hiltrup . After completing his training, he was back with the Bremen police. From 1995 he headed the development project for the reorganization of the Police Inspection West.

In 1996, Münch moved to the Senator for Internal Affairs and Sport, and from 1999, again with the police, became head of the Controlling / Finances / Strategic Planning department. From 2002 he headed the presidential department. In 2005, Münch was appointed head of the Criminal Police / State Criminal Police Office.

From May 1, 2009 to November 30, 2011 he was police chief of Bremen as the successor to the late Eckard Mordhorst .

From November 2011 to November 2014, the non-party Münch was the Bremen State Councilor and Deputy Senator for Interior and Sport Ulrich Mäurer (SPD) as the successor to Karen Buse (SPD).

Münch is married and has two sons.

President of the Federal Criminal Police Office

In 2014, Münch was appointed as the successor to the outgoing President of the BKA Jörg Ziercke (SPD). As President of the BKA, Münch wants to focus on the fight against digital crime, with the dynamism of which, in his opinion, the police could hardly keep up.
