Eckard Mordhorst

Eckard Mordhorst (born September 21, 1946 ; † January 17, 2009 in Bremen ) was a German police officer and from 2001 until his death the police chief of Bremen.

Life

Before his military service, Mordhorst completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft manufacturer . After completing his military service, he joined the Bremen police on April 1, 1970 as an extraordinary detective . Initially active in the homicide squad , he completed his training for the senior police force in 1978 . He resumed his work on the homicide squad after completing his training.

In 1984 he began training for the higher police force at the Police Management Academy in Münster-Hiltrup , which Mordhorst successfully completed in 1986. After his appointment to the criminal inspector , he headed various criminal police inspections before he moved to the Senator for the Interior in 1991 . He was appointed head of the Bremen criminal police in February 1993; at the same time he took over the function of deputy chief of police. In 2001 he was appointed police chief, in whose function he celebrated his 40th anniversary on April 3, 2008.

Others

Mordhorst was for many years on the board of the White Ring , an aid organization for crime victims. In addition, he had a teaching position at the University of Public Administration in Bremen and he was appointed honorary professor for criminology in 2002 . Together with the writer Jürgen Alberts , he wrote the detective novel Leiche über Bord .

Mordhorst was married and the father of two children.
