Roger Hanin (born October 20, 1925 in Algiers , † February 11, 2015 in Paris ) was a French actor and film director . He became known as Commissioner Navarro .

Live and act

Born Roger Lévy, son of the Jewish postal worker Joseph Lévy, Roger took his mother's surname, Victorine Hanin. He made his film debut after a few theater roles in 1952 in the drama The Road to Damascus , directed by Max Glass . After a few minor roles, he received numerous major roles from the mid-1950s. In 1960 he played Carl Zumbach in Jean-Luc Godard's classic film Breathless . In addition to his acting work, Hanin co-wrote Claude Chabrol on several spy films in the mid-1960s . In Chabrol's films The Tiger Only Loves Fresh Meat and The Tiger Is Perfumed With Dynamite (1964 and 1965) he played the title role of the secret agent “Le Tigre”.

From 1974 he also appeared as a director and staged ten film and television projects up to and including 1997. His directorial work Train d'enfer (1985) won a special award at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival . From 1962 he also worked as a screenwriter. After 1997 he only appeared on television as an actor; there his work includes more than 110 projects. At a late age, he became popular for his title role in the Franco-German crime series Kommissar Navarro , of which over 100 episodes were filmed between 1989 and 2009.

Hanin had one child with his first wife Lisette and the marriage was divorced. Through his second wife Christine Gouze-Rénal (1914-2002), the sister of Danielle Mitterrand , with whom he was married from 1959 until her death in 2002, he became the brother-in-law of French President François Mitterrand .

Roger Hanin died of respiratory failure in 2015 at the age of 89 .
