from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claude M. Butlin (* 17th April 1877 , † unknown), sometimes called Charles M. Butlin or as Claudio M. Butlin listed was an athlete in Mexico , both in football and in tennis and golf great success.

biography

A certain CM Butlin, whose nationality is sometimes given as English and sometimes as French, appears in the annals of Mexican football as the player- coach of the championship team of the Mexico Cricket Club in 1903/04 with the first name Claude and in later years (1906 to 1912) as a player of the Reforma AC championship teams with the first name Charles. Presumably this is the same person.

During the same period Claude M. Butlin was on April 18, 1908 by an 8: 7, 11: 9 and 6: 2 final victory over Harvey McQuiston first lawn tennis champion of Mexico. Between 1925 and 1927, Butlin played in the Davis Cup and was the first player to win for Mexico in that tournament.

In the 1920s, Claude M. Butlin was also a successful golfer, becoming a Mexican champion five times: three times (1920, 1921 and 1924) he won the championship, which was still unofficial at the time, before two official championship titles followed in 1926 and 1927. In the annals of Mexican golf at that time, he already had a Mexican first name and was mentioned as Claudio M. Butlin.
