Peter Arens (actor)

Peter Arens (born February 18, 1928 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † August 25, 2015 in Stäfa ) was a Swiss actor and theater director .

Life

The son of the actress Charlotte Arens attended school in Bern and completed theater training. In 1947 he made his debut at the Stadttheater Bern . In 1950 he moved to the Deutsches Theater Göttingen under Heinz Hilpert and in 1953 to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg . In 1958 he was engaged at the Münchner Kammerspiele , later he played at the Residenztheater in Munich , the Vienna Burgtheater , the Berlin Schiller Theater , the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and again in Munich .

From 1963 he worked at the Schauspielhaus Zürich , where he not only took on numerous roles, but also directed for the first time. He appeared as a guest on various other stages. He also continued to stage plays, including Der zerbrochne Krug at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg.

Since the 1950s he has also worked in feature films and embodied the composer Carl Maria von Weber in the romance Durch die Wälder, durch die Auen . He was seen on television in 1960 in A Christmas Carol in Prose or A Ghost Story for Christmas as the writer Charles Dickens . His best-known role is probably that of Gaylord's father in the successful Malpass film The Morning at Seven Is All Right From 1968.

Arens, who appeared in the 1989 film Dr. M took over the recording management as an exception , also appeared in public at readings and recitation evenings. He also wrote and staged radio plays . He was married to the actress Margrit Ensinger . His children are the painter Valentin Arens and the actress Babett Arens (* 1959). He last lived in Stäfa.
