- Magdeburg / Germany : Holger Stahlknecht , Minister of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt , is dismissed by Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff . The reason for this are statements in an interview that was not agreed on about the coalition dispute over the increase in the radio license fee . He then announced his resignation as state chairman of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt .

- Kankara / Nigeria : The state high school of the Local Government Area in the northern state of Katsina is attacked at night by an armed gang on motorbikes; several hundred schoolboys at the boarding school are kidnapped or flee. The perpetrators are discovered the next day and engage in a shootout with the police. The Islamist terrorist organization Boko Haram is said to have confessed to the act.
