Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė

The Šimonytė cabinet is the 18th Lithuanian government since 1990; the formation of the government began in November 2020 and ended in early December 2020. The government is a coalition of three parties: the conservative party Tėvynės Sąjunga (TS-LKD) and the two liberal parties Laisvės partija and LRLS . The majority of ministers came from TS-LKD, as it won the parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 2020 .

history

In the summer of 2010, Ingrida Šimonytė represented the then Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius as Finance Minister in the Kubilius II cabinet during his one month summer vacation. The basis for this was a decree by President Dalia Grybauskaitė . In the run-up to the 2020 parliamentary elections , the TS-LKD had already designated her as electoral leader and top candidate for the office of Prime Minister. After the Seimas election, the conservative party became the winner. Then it was the Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda the Prime Minister of Lithuaniaconsidered as a good candidate. On November 25, 2020, Šimonytė was appointed by the 13th Seimas on the proposal of President Gitanas Nausėda, and the cabinet was confirmed by Nausėda on December 7, 2020. The cabinet was sworn in on December 11, 2020.
