- Vienna / Austria : At ORF III is awarded the Nestroy Theater Prize 2020 transmitted. The Lifetime Achievement Prize goes to Christoph Marthaler and the Elfriede Jelinek Author Prize for Schwarzwasser . The best actors are Caroline Peters and Franz Paetzold awarded in the category of Best Young are Bérénice Hebenstreit and Mathias Spaan honored.

- Stockholm / Sweden : Scientists Harvey J. Alter , Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice are awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of the hepatitis C virus .

- Stockholm / Sweden : For her research on black holes is Roger Penrose , Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez of the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded.
Wednesday 7th October 2020
- Athens / Greece : In a judgment against the party “ Golden Dawn ”, party leader Nikos Michaloliakos and seven former MPs were found guilty of various charges, including murder. The party was also classified as a criminal organization. After the verdict was announced, there were riots between the police and autonomous groups.
- Brussels / Belgium : With 345 to 295 votes, the members of the EU Parliament rejected the Mercosur Agreement for the time being.
- Stockholm / Sweden : The Nobel Prize for Chemistry goes to French Emmanuelle Charpentier and American Jennifer Doudna .

- Berlin / Germany : The eviction of the house in Liebigstrasse 34 led to massive riots. In the neighboring Steinstrasse, window panes were deliberately destroyed and cars set on fire.
