- Moscow / Russia : The constitutional referendum in Russia is accepted.

- Worldwide: Comet C / 2020 F3 (NEOWISE) passed the point closest to the Sun in its perihelion and will be increasingly visible in the northwestern evening sky in the course of July 2020.

- A hacker attack on Twitter results in numerous celebrity accounts - including Barack Obama , Bill Gates , Jeff Bezos , Warren Buffett and Elon Musk - being hacked . The accounts are used to publish messages that attempt to defraud Internet users of Bitcoin credit.

- Comet C / 2020 F3 (NEOWISE) reaches its northernmost position after passing through the planet Mars and can be observed with an apparent brightness of 2.6 m in the northern hemisphere just above the horizon of the northern night sky. At 11:30 p.m. CEST it stands in conjunction just seven arc minutes above the star Talitha Borealis in the constellation Great Bear .

- Comet C / 2020 F3 (NEOWISE) reaches its closest point to earth with less than 0.7 astronomical units and can be observed around midnight at an apparent brightness of 3 m and at a height of around 20 ° above the northwestern horizon.

- Chengdu / China : Chinese authorities have taken over the US consulate in the city again after the deadline for eviction had expired.
- Kiev / Ukraine : The Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatists have agreed on a ceasefire that went into effect at midnight.

- Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia : The former Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak is now found guilty of abuse of power and money laundering after a financial scandal at a state fund. His sentence will be announced at a later date. A total of five trials with 42 counts are pending against him.
- Frankfurt am Main / Germany : The Goethe Tower in the Frankfurt city forest has been rebuilt.

- Tempe / Arizona : On the south side of the Union Pacific Salt River Bridge, several wagons of a freight train derailed in the early morning hours. Parts of the bridge collapsed and several wagons loaded with wood caught fire that spread across large parts of the bridge.

- Cape Canaveral / United States : Planned start of the US Mars 2020 mission between 1:50 and 3:50 p.m. (CEST)
