- Hanover / Germany : All schools, daycare centers and day care centers in Lower Saxony are closed up to and including the Easter holidays.
- Kiel / Germany : All schools, daycare centers and day care centers in Schleswig-Holstein are closed up to and including the Easter holidays.
- Mainz / Germany : All schools, daycare centers and day care centers in Rhineland-Palatinate are closed until and including the Easter holidays.
- Munich / Germany : Prime Minister Markus Söder announces in a press conference the closure of all schools, daycare centers and day care centers in Bavaria until April 20th. Furthermore, the right to visit hospitals, nursing homes and similar facilities is severely restricted. These measures are necessary to contain the coronavirus pandemic .
- Saarbrücken / Germany : All schools, daycare centers and day care centers in Saarland are closed up to and including the Easter holidays.

- Melbourne / Australia : This year's Formula 1 World Championship should have started with the Australian Grand Prix .
- Berlin / Germany : Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the German government is controlling the borders with Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria for passenger traffic. Goods and work-related commuter traffic are excluded.
- Vienna / Austria : COVID-19 pandemic in Austria - Parliament decides on a general exit restriction , the ban on assemblies, the closure of a large number of commercial and service businesses. The restrictions will come into force the next day, the catering will not be closed until Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

- Munich / Germany : The start of the A bitur exams in Bavaria has been postponed from April 30 to May 20.
- Tübingen / Germany : According to the co-owners Dietmar Hopp and Friedrich von Bohlen and Halbach, the Swabian biopharmaceutical company CureVac AG can possibly deliver a vaccine against the new respiratory disease COVID-19 in autumn 2020 and thus actively fight the COVID-19 pandemic .

- California : The US state of California has imposed a general curfew in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic , which will apply from the night of March 20, 2020 (local time). Governor Gavin Newsom expects over 25 million corona infections in California.
- Berlin / Germany : The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Berlin announces a pension adjustment from July 1, 2020. This will increase pensions in western Germany by 3.45 percent and in eastern Germany by 4.20 percent. The pension increase in the summer of 2020 for around 21 million pensioners is accompanied by additional income tax revenues in the three-digit million range for the state.

- Budapest / Hungary : The parliament passes an emergency law against the votes of the opposition, according to which the government is empowered to issue decrees and to suspend fundamental rights and laws. Elections and referendums should not take place. An end date is not provided; the parliament can decide on the lifting of the measures, but since the law provides for the means of the "forced parliamentary break", the government can effectively prevent the assembly of the parliament, so that the Hungarian government has the possibility to indefinitely without the participation of the parliament to govern by decrees. Critics see a parallel to the Enabling Act of March 24, 1933 of the NSDAP in the German Reich .
