  • Punta Arenas / Chile : A cargo plane belonging to the Chilean Air Force has gone missing on the way to a base in the Antarctic. There are 38 people on board the machine, including 17 crew members and 21 passengers.
  • Helsinki / Finland : Following the resignation of Antti Rinne , Sanna Marin is elected as the new Prime Minister . At 34, she is currently the youngest head of government in the world.

  • Berlin / Germany : Chancellor Angela Merkel catches up with the term of office of her predecessor Konrad Adenauer : 14 years and one month. She would have overtaken the previous record holder Helmut Kohl if she had stayed in office until December 18, 2021. Merkel's next record would already be due on September 10, 2020: At the age of 23, the former minister for women and the environment would have been a member of the federal cabinet longer than the previous record holder Hans-Dietrich Genscher .
