Paul Viktor Podolay ( Slovak Pavol Podolay ; born May 30, 1946 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak-German politician ( AfD , formerly CSU ) and President of the German-Slovak Economic Union . In 2003 he was appointed honorary representative of the government of the Bratislava region in the Free State of Bavaria . He was elected to the 19th German Bundestag in 2017 .

Life

Podolay grew up in Czechoslovakia and worked as a medical technician at the University Hospital in Bratislava, where he participated in the first heart transplant in the Eastern Bloc in 1968 . He completed an internship abroad at the ETH Zurich and studied civil engineering at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava , with a focus on economics. Later he worked at the Institute for Medical Cosmetics in Bratislava.

He left Czechoslovakia with his wife and two children in December 1982 and emigrated to Germany. He then worked at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the Technical University of Munich . At an advanced age, Podolay studied political science for nine semesters at the Munich School of Politics .

Podolay was later appointed CEO of Spektrum AG in Prague and was also a senior partner of Paradigm Capital AG in Grünwald . He was the representative of the CHECKus Media Group in Germany.

Podolay has participated in automobile rallies and hill climbs for over 22 years . Then he founded his own team in the international German Formula 3 championship.

Podolay was active in the CSU for many years until he converted to the AfD in 2015. Podolay is considered Euro critics . In 2012, he joined the Federal Constitutional Court against the EU fiscal pact and the ESM rescue package . In the 2014 European elections , Podolay ran as an independent candidate for the Sloboda a Solidarita party in Slovakia .

In the 2017 federal election he ran for the AfD in the Erlangen constituency as a direct candidate and moved into the 19th German Bundestag via 10th place on the Bavarian state list .

Podolay wants to reduce the number of organ donations needed through more prevention, since in his opinion clinics would also carry out medically not indicated transplants. On June 26, 2019 and January 16, 2020, he spoke out against the proposed objection solution .

In June 2019, Podolay was nominated by the AfD parliamentary group in the German Bundestag as the fourth candidate for the office of Vice President of the German Bundestag after three AfD candidates had failed in the election. In the election on September 26, 2019, he was not elected. His second attempt to become Vice President also failed on November 7, 2019, and his third attempt on December 12, 2019.
