The first round of the parliamentary elections in Mali 2020 took place on March 29. The second round took place on April 19th. The 147 members of the National Assembly in Mali are elected . The electoral commission Commission Electorale Nationale Indépendante (CENI) was responsible for running the election. The election took place despite terrorist violence and the COVID-19 pandemic .

The last parliamentary election took place on November 25 and December 15, 2013. The election should have been held in 2018, but was postponed several times due to the Islamist violence in north and central Mali. In March 2020 there were around 218,000 internally displaced persons in the country.

In 2013, the Rassemblement pour le Mali (RPM), the party of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta , won 66 seats. The Alliance pour la Démocratie en Mali - Parti Pan-Africain pour la Liberté, la Solidarité et la Justice (ADEMA-PASJ) under Tiémoko Sangaré received 44 seats, the Union pour la République et la Démocratie (URD) ​​under Soumaila Cissé 17 seats. The Forces Alternatives pour la Renouveau et l'Emergence (FARE) provided six members, the Solidarité africaine pour la Démocratie et l'Indépendance (SADI) five, the Parti pour la Renaissance Nationale (PARENA) three and the Parti pour le Développement Economique et la Solidarité (PDES) two. Electoral process

The 147 members of the National Assembly are elected by majority vote in 125 constituencies . Receives no candidate in the first ballot, the absolute majority of votes, is a runoff of the two candidates with the most votes take place. In constituencies with several seats, these are assigned by block voting (scrutin majoritaire plurinormal) , i. H. the parry with the most votes receives all seats in the constituency.

There were over 22,000 polling stations. Around 7.7 million Malians were registered for the election.
